Sunil Chhetri is an Indian footballer who plays for McDowell Mohun Bagan in the forward position. He is also an integral part of the Indian football team as the leading striker.

As a matter of fact, it was McDowell Mohun Bagan who welcomed Chhetri's first steps in India's club football circuit. His stint from 2002 to 2005 saw him score 8 goals in his 18 appearances. As McDowell Mohun Bagan struggled to keep itself in the National Football League (the erstwhile I-League) for the years 2004 and 2005, Chhetri planned his move to Punjab club JCT Phagwara. 20 goals in 48 appearances proved to be a very successful phase for Chhetri as it was complemented by a glorious state-level and national-level career. He was seen as a promising striker and accolades came his way in 2007-08, in the form of various "Player of the Year" awards and opportunities to join Portugese club Estoril Praia and English side Leeds United.

Year 2008 saw him become a part of Kolkata club Kingfisher East Bengal where he managed to include 7 goals in his repertoire, in 14 appearances. Meanwhile, his Indian national team career showed very promising and strong signs of development, as offers continued to flow in from international football clubs the world over.

Dempo, in 2009, included Chhetri in their ranks while he continued to attend trials for other international clubs, too. Failed offer deals by Glasgow Celtic, Queen's Park Rangers, etc., however failed to deter him as he knew there was something for him right ahead.

2010 proved to be the bullseye year for him - American soccer club Kansas City Wizards signed on the dotted line with the Indian striker and he moved to the West for the next year.

It wouldn't be long since he would mark his stellar comeback to the Mariners. In 2011, after ending a year's stint at Kansas City Wizards, Kolkata club United SC managed to employ his services for a few months. It was then that he signed on to McDowell Mohun Bagan and has, since then, continued to terrorize the opponent's defense line.

Hailed by many coaches and mentors - national as well as international - this Mariner is renowned known as the "poster boy" of Indian football, following the steps of ex-India and McDowell Mohun Bagan great Baichung Bhutia.
