Shilton Paul is an Indian goalkeeper and has been a part of the McDowell Mohun Bagan team since 2006. Shilton has represented India at the junior level and is aiming to break into the senior national squad soon.
Born in Habra, West Bengal, Shilton made his way to the Tata Football Academy at a very young age and trained there for 6 years. During his stint there, Shilton impressed many and was soon offered a contract by McDowell Mohun Bagan.
During his first year with McDowell Mohun Bagan, Shilton found it very difficult to make it to the starting eleven. After all, you had established goalkeepers like Subrata Paul, Sangram Mukherjee and Imran Khan on the Mohun Bagan team roster. Due to the lack of opportunities, Shilton had made up his mind to leave the Mariners but then Chima Okerie became the coach and Shilton got to play his first match in an AFC Cup encounter. He did well in that match and Chima gave him a lot of opportunities after that. He considers it a great moment because he performed well when he was finally given his chance.
" They need to work as hard as they can. Goalkeepers also need to concentrate on certain basic things like gripping, jumping etc. They should constantly try to improve on their mistakes and not let failure bog them down. "
Shilton likes going out on long drives. He usually drives down to Mandarmani or Digha with friends. He also enjoys the drive from Kolkata to Habra.
