Rakesh Masih is an Indian footballer who currently plays for Mohun Bagan as a defender. His role, as an articulate stopper, has helped fans draw references to Bagan legends Goshta Pal and Sailen Manna.
As a 17 year-old, Rakesh Masih, a Punjab lad, joined the Tata Football Academy and began his training in 2004. Like a good defender, Masih has been blessed with the apt football skills and a robust streamlined physique. This helps him occupy positions in the central midfield area, as well, apart from his usual full-back position.
His efforts eventually, culminated into a berth at McDowell Mohun Bagan. 2008 saw Rakesh Masih start for Mohun Bagan in the defense position and coach Karim Bencharifa's tactics saw him capitalize on the lanky defender's skills to the hilt.
The next year, he went on to play for the Indian national side, as well. It does not come as a surprise because Mariners have always made the Indian team proud. Accolades such as, 'Best Young Player' and 'Best Player of the Year' saw him being nominated as he continued to amass a score of 45 goals in his 40 appearances for the Mariners.
A string of injuries had almost ruined year 2010 for Masih, but McDowell Mohun Bagan showed faith in the National Team player and retained him for the 2011 season, too. His contribution has been duly noted in McDowell Mohun Bagan's performance in this year's Federation Cup, Kolkata Premier League and I-League.
