Jose Ramirez Barreto is the current captain of McDowell Mohun Bagan. A true leader, he spearheads the forward attack, along with the likes of Sunil Chhetri, Odafa Okolie and Ashim Biswas.

Hailing from the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, this South American striker began his career at Gremio Football Porto Alegrense in his hometown. His first stint with McDowell Mohun Bagan was in the year 1999 which was short-lived but yet, it marked his foray into Indian Football. After spending five years with the Mariners, Barreto then sailed eastwards to Malaysia where he continued his football career with Penang FA. It was at this club where earned the moniker, 'Kapitan' - after captaining the Malaysian club during his second season.

But somehow, India seemed to be his calling. The year 2005 saw Jose Ramirez Barretto's return to Indian Football, this time bagged by Mahindra United. A remarkable temperament is something that is synchronous with Barretto. This is what saw him through the bumpy roads of Indian Football.

2006 was the year of the second coming - Barretto signed the dotted lines for the second time with Mohun Bagan and since then, he has never looked back. Nicknamed, 'The Green Parrot', he has been touted as one of Mohun Bagan's best skippers who led the team to a victorious Federation Cup in 2006.

Barretto does justice to the slogan carved out for him, "Sheet, Grishma, Borsha; Barretoi Bhorsa
