Anwar Ali is an Indian footballer who plays for Mohun Bagan as a defender. He has been playing for the Indian team since 2007 and has also played in the Asia Cup 2011.

His hometown, Rurka Kalan, is considered the best village in Punjab in terms of football talent. Growing up there inspired Anwar to take up the game at a young age. Anwar's first stint as a professional footballer came in 2006 when he joined JCT. Good performances with the club earned him a call up to the national side in 2007. After three seasons with JCT, Anwar joined Dempo in 2009 and played there for a season.

He spent the better part of 2010 playing with the Indian national team in preparation for the Asia Cup 2011. On returning from Qatar after the Cup, Anwar played for Mohun Bagan during the second half of the 2010-11 I-League season.

Growing up, Anwar always wanted to play in the famous 'Kolkata derby' and his first match for Mohun Bagan was coincidently a derby match. He still cherishes the memories of his first derby that had over 90,000 fans in attendance.

" A lot of new opportunities are creeping up in Indian football.. The future of the game looks bright in India but youngsters have to put in a lot of hard work. They also need to hone their skills and techniques. "

Anwar has kept his focus only on football after turning pro. He enjoys spending time with his family during the off-season period.
