Wim Koevermans takes reins of the national team
16-Jun, 2012
Dutchman Wim Koevermans has been appointed as the new coach of the Indian national team by the AIFF. Kushal Das, the General Secretary of All India Football Federation, presented Koevermans with a National tem jersey at his unveiling ceremony in New Delhi on Friday.
Koevermans, whose last assignment was with the Republic of Ireland as High Performance Director, will travel to Muscat along with Technical Director Rob Baan to watch India's matches in the forthcoming AFC U-22 Championship.
The new coach's first test will be the Nehru Cup, which starts on August 23. Apart from India, the tournament will feature four other international teams and will be played on a round-robin basis. The top two teams will qualify for the final to be held on September 2. Prize money for the tournament has been doubled to US $200,000 from US $100,000.
We wish Wim Koevermans a happy and successful stint with the Indian team.
