Special Cover to be released by Hon. Governor on 29th July24-Jul, 2010
Kolkata , 24-Jul, 2010 :
29th July is a red letter day in Indian History and a great day for the club as well; it is celebrated as Mohun Bagan Day each year. This year is all the more significant since this is the centenary year of the great victory. To commemorate this great victory, a "Special Cover" duly authorized by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Government of India, would be released by His Excellency Mr. M. K. Narayanan, Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal.
Mohun Bagan Ratna will be conferred posthumously on the Team Members of 1911 (except captain Shibdas Bhaduri who has already been honoured with Mohun Bagan Ratna before). This event would take place on 29th July, 2010 at Mohun Bagan Athletic Club Tent premises in the Maidan from 6:30 pm onwards.
Mohun Bagan Athletic Club was established in the year 1889. It is the first ever Indian club to have won the IFA Shield defeating East Yorkshire Regiment by 2-1 on 29th July, 1911 to create history and make the whole world sit up and take notice of the Indian struggle for freedom against imperial Britain. The Government of India released a postage stamp in 1989 to commemorate this famous victory and to honour the club and its Immortal Eleven for the fight for an oppressed country. This is the only postage stamp in India based on a club. Mohun Bagan club was also declared as the "National Soccer Club of India."
The Special Cover will be available from club on 29th July after its release and thereafter from souvenier shop of the club next day onwards till stocks last.
The whole matter has been conceptualized and organized by Mr. Roshan Prasad and Mr. Prince Rufus, Operations Manager of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club.
