Kolkata Goalz trainee set to play in Calcutta Football League

20-Apr, 2012

It gives me great pride, joy and privilege to inform you that Md. Ibran, a trainee of McDowell Mohun Bagan Kolkata Goalz Project excelled in football trials conducted in the Maidan by Calcutta Football Club (CFC), a Club which plays in the 2nd Division of Calcutta Football League organized by The Indian Football Association (West Bengal).

The trials were conducted in phases with talented footballers from the city and outskirts vying with each other to catch the attention of the coaches at CFC. Today, Md. Ibran was registered as a footballer of the Senior football team of CFC for the 2012-2013 football season after duly completing all registration procedures in presence of officials of IFA (WB).

Md. Ibran who generally plays as a right winger is a trainee of the McDowell Mohun Bagan Kolkata Goalz Project since its inception (Roll No. 6) and has been training with the Team under the supervision of our panel of coaches since September 2011.

Md. Ibran who hails from an underprivileged family, stays in the Jorasanko area of Kolkata and studies in Class IX at The Presidency Muslim High School at Zakarias Street. He has 10 siblings (6 sisters and 4 brothers). His father, Md. Islam used to work as a cab driver but after sustaining injuries following a road accident, is unable to work now. Ibran’s elder brothers work hard as labours to ensure that the family gets three square meals a day.

It may be noted that in the Calcutta Football League, 5th Division is the lowest division and Premier Division is the highest based on principles of promotion and relegation. Thus Md. Ibran now gets an opportunity to don CFC colours and play for his team in the 2nd Division of Calcutta Football League in the 2012-13 season. This would also provide him an opportunity to showcase his skills and work his way upwards. This is the first ever occasion when any trainee of Kolkata Goalz has been registered as a footballer in the Calcutta Football League and it is hoped that the exploits of Md. Ibran will inspire other trainees of both McDowell Mohun Bagan Kolkata Goalz as well as those in other Kolkata Goalz Projects to make a mark for themselves on similar lines.

This achievement is all the more unique since Md. Ibran always used to play football in his school and neighborhood, but has received formal football training from qualified coaches only from September 2011 onwards as a trainee of McDowell Mohun Bagan Kolkata Goalz.

Warm Regards,

Prince Rufus
