Jose Barreto's last press conference as player of McDowell Mohun Bagan

7-May, 2012

Jose Ramirez Barreto attended the last press conference as a player of McDowell Mohun Bagan after the match.

He thanked Odafa Okolie who was also present in the conference room saying, "Thank you for the wonderful moment I have spent with you in Mohun Bagan. It's now your turn to look after the team and help Mohun Bagan win matches and more trophies."

Regarding the grand farewell that he received, he said, "It is one of the most memorable day of my life. I never thought that I would be receiving such farewell. So many supporters chanting my name made me believe that it is impossible to live without Mohun Bagan. I will always be available for Mohun Bagan. Initially I thought I might not be able to focus on the match because I would be emotional, but I knew that I had to give my best, as I always give, in my last match also."

Regarding the goal, he said, "It came as a blessing from the God. Initially though when I took the shot, I thought it was going out, but then thanks to God it took a slight turn and went in."

"May be, if we had a good physical trainer, I could have played for a couple of more seasons, but I have no regret. I think this is the right time for me to leave Mohun Bagan. If we have a physical trainer in my new club, hopefully I can continue for a couple of more seasons." Jose Barreto said.

Regarding Mohun Bagan failing to win any trophies, he said, "This season has been the most disappointing one, more so because I was the captain. Hopefully, next season Mohun Bagan will bounce back and will win trophies and I will be extremely happy on Mohun Bagan's victory."

On playing against Mohun Bagan in future, he said, "If I have to play against Mohun Bagan in future, I will be a thorough professional and will give my best for the team where I will be playing, but Mohun Bagan will always remain in a special position in my heart."

He also jokingly said, "Hope the East Bengal supporters are very happy that I will not be playing against them anymore wearing green and maroon jersey."

Jose Barreto thanked the officials of Mohun Bagan, the coaches under whom he has played over the years, his team mates and of course last but not the least the fans of Mohun Bagan for always supporting him.

He ended the press conference saying, "Whereever I go, I will always remain as a Mohun Bagani."
