Yuba Bharati turns 'Mohun Bharati' Once Again

It was a brilliant tactical win by McDowell Mohun Bagan as they completely outclassed Kingfisher East Bengal 2-0 in a Kolkata Premier League match held at the Salt Lake Stadium (also known as Yuba Bharati Krirangan). Odafa Okolie and Manish Bharghav scored a goal apiece.


"It was the best performance of our team in this season and we could have won by 5 goals", said Coach Prasanta Banerjee after the match while Kingfisher East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan said, "It was a fair result, they fully deserved to win today." Both these statements sum up today's performance of McDowell Mohun Bagan.


Yesterday, Prasanta Banerjee had said, "East Bengal has a formidable midfield and that is their main strength. We are formulating our strategy in such a way so that we can neutralize their strength." Indeed, full credit goes to the Technical Director, Subrata Bhattacharya, for the way he used five midfielders and stopped the natural game of both Mehtab Hussain and Penn Orji. Both Daniell Zeleny and Rakesh Masih excelled in their roles as the blockers-cum-snatchers in the midfield, and did not allow Penn any room to operate freely or make his down the middle runs. On the other hand, Jewel Raja had an excellent game as he did both his jobs in a perfect manner. He was used in the hole between the midfield and lone striker Odafa Okolie; he was also assigned the job of stopping Mehtab Hossain's runs. He would get full points for sticking to his job, though he was guilty of missing a few easy chances in the second half.

Prasanta said, "Today our midfielders played flawless football. Whatever duty we had assigned to Rakesh, Zeleny and Jewel, they did it to perfection."
