29th July will and always be an iconic day for McDowell Mohun Bagan and its countless supporters.
Decades ago, it was on this eventful day that an Indian football team changed the course of history by defeating a British club - East Yorkshire Regiment - to lift the IFA Shield.
1911 will always be known as the year of the 'Egaro' - the eleven barefooted victors who led McDowell Mohun Bagan right into the record books of Indian football.

Mohun Bagan Day is celebrated on 29th July every year from 2001 onwards to commemorate the great victory in 1911 when Mohun Bagan beat East Yorkshire Regiment to win the first ever IFA Shield. "Mohun Bagan is not a football team. It is an oppressed country, rolling in the dust, which has just started to rise its head" - said Achintya Kumar Sengupta in "Kallol Jug" magazine after the historic victory of 1911 IFA Shield. On this day, "Mohun Bagan Ratna" is conferred upon the former greats of the club who have made McDowell Mohun Bagan proud by their performance.
