Remembering a playmaker par excellence - Krishanu Dey
On the 9th death anniversary of Krishanu Dey, McDowell Mohun Bagan remembers one of India's finest footballers. Krishanu who achieved super stardom while playing for the Mariners, was instrumental in the club's success in the Rover's Cup, Federation Cup and IFA Shield victories of 1982.
A creative player, Krishanu earned praise from the likes of Sir Bobby Robson. He scored twice in a 4-3 win over South Korea in the group stage of the 1986 Merdeka Cup to help India script a famous victory. Krishanu Dey came up with some of his best performances for India during the Inaugural SAFF Games, where India clinched the gold.
In an article on him, TheHardTackle said, "Krishanu Dey might have passed away but his fame and popularity remains undiminished. His style of play and introvert, gentle nature led to universal adoration."
Krishanu Dey will always remain in the hearts of football lovers.
