Badal Das

Badal Das a.k.a Badal da is an ardent Mohun Bagan fan and has been following the club since he was 12 years old. He is a floral decorator by profession but always makes time to watch his favorite team play. He has won the distinction of being the 'shera-dorshok' on five occasions.

We caught up with Badal da after Mohun Bagan went undefeated against bitter rivals East Bengal during the season.

Badal da, how do you feel after your team has got the better of East Bengal this season?

It is a great feeling. Would have been better if we had won the last match too but we were a player down for the last 15 minutes, so a draw was also a great result for us.

We saw a picture of yours with a 'shobuj-merun' chingri. How did you make it?

I made it especially for the East Bengal match. I used thermocol to make it and then painted it. I also made a boat once for the 'boro match' and took it to the stadium.

Which is the best Mohun Bagan match that you have seen?

The 5-3 victory against East Bengal was the best. In 1975 they had scored 5 goals against us and finally scoring 5 against them was like settling an old score.

Name five of the best players that you have seen in Mohun Bagan colors.

Barreto, Shishir Ghosh, Subrata Bhattacharya, Debjit and Prashanta.

Your friends Sachin and Bapi accompany you to the matches. Where all have you been to watch Mohun Bagan play?

I have been to Goa, Ludhiana, Guwahati, Delhi, Orissa and a few other places to support Mohun Bagan. Celebrating victories with friends is great but a loss makes us very sad. I find it hard to eat when we lose.

Have you seen the new team bus?

Yes, I think it's beautiful. There was no talk of a new team bus and it was a pleasant surprise for us when the bus came. The club did a very good thing.

What is your favorite chingri dish?

I like Chingri Malai Curry.
