CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF HISTORICAL IFA SHIELD WIN OF 1911 KICKS OFF TOMORROW
Kolkata, 28-Jul, 2010: Tomorrow, 29th July, Mohun Bagan Day will be celebrated in club. Mohun Bagan is the first-ever Indian Club to have won the IFA Shield defeating East Yorkshire Regiment by 2-1 on 29th July, 1911. 29th July is a Red-letter Day in Indian History and a great day for the Club as well and is celebrated as Mohun Bagan Day each year. This year is all the more significant since this is the 100th Year of the great victory.

The main gate has been built like the IFA Shield trophy, while the main stage is in the shape of a sailing boat, the club's emblem.

There will be three exhibition matches held in the club ground from 1:30 p.m. onwards. The first match between Mohun Bagan Junior Team & Mona Guin Memorial Football Camp is a significant one as Late Mona Guin was ex-captain of our football team and this year is his birth centenary year.

Also, music album of the Bengali movie "Egaro" would be launched. A “Special Cover” duly authorized by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Government of India, would be released by H.E. Mr. M.K. Narayanan, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal. Mohun Bagan Ratna will be conferred posthumously on the Team Members of 1911 (except captain Shibdas Bhaduri who has already been honoured with Mohun Bagan Ratna before).

Out of the 10 players who will receive Mohun Bagan Ratna posthumously, 8 players' family members will attend tomorrow's function.

Today at 6 pm, Honorary General Secretary Mr. Anjan Mitra along with Executive committee members and media personnel gathered in front of Mohun Bagan tent to inaugurate the Glow-sign Board carrying the picture of “Immortal XI” of 1911 IFA Shield winning team of Mohun Bagan presented by Sabuj Maroon Swapno, the premier Fans Club of Mohun Bagan. The bedecked Glow-sign depicts the posture of 11 Indomitable Warriors who brought glory to the whole nation by defeating the East Yorkshire Regiment in the nail-biting IFA Shield final match.
