MOHUN BAGAN HOLD BY JCT IN AWAY MATCH IN LUDHIANA
Kolkata, 15-Mar, 2010: Mohun Bagan was hold today to a goalless draw by JCT in an away match in Ludhiana. Mohun Bagan now has 25 points from 16 matches and are 4 points behind league leaders Mahindra United. Mariners still has 10 matches left in I league. The league is still wide open and there is a lot of chance for Mohun Bagan still to be Champions of the I league. Out of the 10 matches remaining, Mohun Bagan has 6 home matches which will be very crucial for them and they will have to get as many points as possible from these.

Mohun Bagan was very unlucky today as Jose Barreto missed one penalty and few of their efforts were saved from goalline. Team played brilliant football today and dominated proceedings throughout the match.

Today, Jaswinder Singh who came in as a substitute in the 60th minute was adjudged Man of the Match as he made one brilliant goalline save in the fag end of the match which helped JCT to take 1 point from this match. This was a surprising decision. It should have gone to Ishfaq or Marcos.

Mohun Bagan coach Satyajit today made few changes in the team. Ishfaq played in right half and Snehasish in left half with Marcos and Sueoka in central medio. Marcos had more defensive role while Sueoka gave good support to Chidi and Barreto. In defence, Masih paired with Dipak in stopper while Surkumar and Manju played as side backs. Captain Sangram played as goalkeeper.

Mohun Bagan got quite a few corners today, but unfortunately those taken by mainly Marcos and James were cleared by JCT defence.

In the 16th minute, Marcos and Barreto combined well and the ball went to Chidi whose powerful shot narrowly missed the target. Marcos took a very good free kick in the 35th minute but goalkeeper made a good save and fisted the ball out for corner.

Rakesh and Ishfaq was shown yellow card in the first half itself. At the stroke of half time, Ishfaq ran down the right flank, cut in from right side, and gave a brilliant pass to Sueoka, who was just at the top of the box with no player with him. Sueoka was about to start his run to enter the box, suddenly referee blew the whistle for half time. It was a most pathetic and shocking decision by the referee. Mohun Bagan could have scored from that attack.

After lemon break, Barreto took a good shot from Chidi's pass, but ball just went over target.

Mohun Bagan got a penalty in the 60th minute when Chidi was fouled by Narinder Singh. Barreto who has scored many goals for Mohun Bagan via penalty in his career, unfortunately missed the penalty as his shot went out by the left side of the goalkeeper.

Snehasish was replaced by James in the 72nd minute. Ishfaq who was playing in right side went to left half and James played in right half. Within few minutes, Chidi sent a good cross meant for Barreto, who leaped up to head the ball, but it just went over his head.

Mohun Bagan continued to attack and Barreto was fouled outside JCT penalty box. From James free kick, Karanjit made a good save before Chidi could head the ball in.

In the 84th minute, from Marcos' pass, Barreto made a brilliant attempt as he placed the ball to the left of goalkeeper, but his shot beat goalkeeper but again just went out.

In the injury time, Jaswinder made a stunning save from goalline and this earned him today's Man of the Match award. From James well measured corner, Barreto's head beat goalkeeper Karanjit, but unluckily for Mariners, Jaswinder was there standing in goalline who cleared the ball for safety.

After the match, Ishfaq said, "We had a very good match today. I had no problem adjusting to the right half position. I really enjoyed the game. 80% of the game was played in JCT half but unluckily we missed few goals and lost 2 points. Still league is open. We will have to get full points in the coming home matches. I think we were very unlucky today to miss 3 points. The Man of the Match decision was also a very surprising one. Even at the stroke of half time, when I passed the bal to Sueoka, referee suddenly stopped play, Sueoka could have scored from that move."

Coach Satyajit, said, "We really played well today, many chances were created, but unluckily we could not convert them. Penalty miss is part of the game, it can happen. If we could have scored from the chances that we got, the penalty miss would not have been a big issue. In the last minute, JCT made a goal line save. We have lot of home matches left, we will have to win those. Definitely, if we had won today, we could have gone to just 2 points behind Dempo and Mahindra, but unfortunately we missed that chance. Still lot of upset will happen in this league and we have matches against Dempo and Mahindra left."

Mohun Bagan will next have their two home matches against two teams who are lying at the bottom of the table i.e. Sporting Clube de Goa and Shillong Lajong on March 20th and March 27th respectively in Kolkata.
